Housing Data
Home prices and new construction for every US county.
FHFA's house price index for every county and state since 1975, and the Census Bureau's building permits for every county since 1990: how fast home values have risen and how much new housing is being built where you live.
What you get
-
Plain files over HTTPS
Each series for each place as a small JSON or CSV file, plus every dataset as one CSV or Parquet file. No key or signup.
-
Versions you can cite
Every update gets a version id, and a pinned URL always returns the same data. The first version of each month is kept for good, so results stay reproducible.
-
Checked before publishing
Each update is validated against its contract. If a check fails, the last good version stays live.
-
Licenses up front
Every dataset names its source, its license, the exact credit line and whether commercial use is allowed.
Datasets
All 2 datasets-
Building permits by county
New housing units authorized by building permits in every US county each year since 1990, from the Census Bureau's Building Permits Survey: units by building size (single-family to 5+ units), buildings and construction value, with state and national totals.
-
House prices by county and state
FHFA's annual house price index for every US county and state with enough sales, from 1975: cumulative growth in home values from the prices and appraisals of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgages, with the yearly change and indexes based to 100 in 1990 and 2000 so places can be compared.
